History of Saint gilles at Brussels
This former village which is now one of the municipalities of Brussels took a very rapid extension at the beginning of the twentieth century. There are about ten beautiful Art Nouveau houses designed by Victor Horta, Struyvens and Hankar. In particular one must see the house that Horta designed for himself and which is now the Horta Museum; The photographic space Contretype is also housed in a beautiful Hotel Hannon designed by Paul Hankar. The Town Hall dates back to 1904: this beautiful sumptuous edifice resembles a French chateau. Also worth seeing is the church of Saint Gilles and the imposing neo-Gothic building which serves as a prison.
