History of People's square at Shanghai

This huge 14-hectare square was built on the site of the former hippodrome which existed until 1949. It has a large park in the center and is lined with many buildings of various sizes, some of which are public buildings : Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai Grand Theater, Town Hall, Exhibition Center for Urban Planning, Shanghai Museum. It is an important place with many points of interest. Nanjing Road is the main commercial street of the city and measures 5.5 km; It runs along the square. The K11 skyscraper was built in 2002; It reaches a height of 278 m with its 66 floors. The Park Hotel dates from 1934 and was built on the plans of Lázló Huzec; It is art deco style and has a height of 84 m. The Town Hall is a modern white building characterized by numerous square or rectangular openings regularly arranged. The Radisson Blu Hotel is a 520-room hotel in the shape of a round tower; On the 45th floor is a rotating restaurant and under the cupola there is a bar.
